PM Modi propounds 6Rs for sustainable development
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday vouched for an idea of six Rs for sustainable development- Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Recover, Redesign and Remanufacture, with the view to safeguarding nature.
In his keynote address at the inauguration of the World Government Summit in Dubai, Prime Minister Modi said that mankind was using technology in ways that were adversely affecting nature.
Centre to connect all schools in India with digital boards
The Centre has decided to connect all schools in India with “digital boards”. This was stated by the Minister of State for Human Resource Development, Upendra Kushwaha, in New Delhi today.
He told news agency PTI-Bhasha that the government has been pushing the scheme at 25 Kendriya Vidyalayas under a pilot project. For this, tablets have been provided to them under the Operation Digital Blackboard project
PM Modi’s Jordan visit, first in three decades by Indian
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Jordan is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister in three decades, said Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale .
Gokhale further said this is first ever to visit after former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi’s visit to the country in 1988 .
PM Modi delivers keynote address in UAE
Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a keynote address at the inauguration of the World Government Summit .
Prior to the address, a Bharatnatyam performance was held.
Earlier, Prime Minister Modi his Kyrgyz counterpart Sapar Isakov. He also held a meeting with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) business leaders. He also called on the Vice President, Prime Minister of United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
India, Oman share strategic partnership: Envoy
The Indian Ambassador to Oman, Indra Mani Pandey, on Saturday hailed the strategic partnership between India and Oman.
Pandey told ANI, “We share a strategic partnership with Oman. Prime Minister Modi will meet with the King of Oman (Sultan Qaboos bin Said al Said) and will discuss cooperation in defence and security matters. The main focus will be on counter-terrorism on the security front, while on the defence front, the issue will be on security in the Indian Ocean region. Oman is our trusted partner. We will discuss how to take this cooperation to a new level.”
Bihar government bans sale of loose cigarettes
The Bihar government has banned the sale of loose cigarettes in the state. Bihar is the 12th state in the country to enforce such a ban.
District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police of concerned districts have been instructed to act as per the Tobacco Control Act under which anyone selling loose cigarettes would be liable for fine.
Mumbai University’s highest authority too can’t relax 50% attendance rule: Bombay HC
The Bombay High Court has held that the Mumbai University’s ordinance mandating a minimum 50 per cent attendance was in the interest of students and thus, even the highest authority in the university had no power to allow any undue relaxation in the rule.
SEBI to issue guidelines on corporate bonds
The Securities and Exchanges Board of India (SEBI) will soon issue guidelines on corporate bonds to encourage firms to explore the opportunity for raising funds, detailed rules for which will be released in September this year.
The same was stated by SEBI Chairman Ajay Tyagi, who lauded the government’s recent proposal to mandate listed companies to raise 25 percent funds via corporate bonds.
India Post Payments Bank to enable digital payment by April
With the nationwide rollout of the India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) Expansion Programme scheduled to begin in April this year, digital payments in post offices are expected to be enabled around the same time.
The Ministry of Communications, in an official statement claimed that once the proposed expansion is completed, IPPB will be providing the largest financial inclusion network in the country, covering both urban as well as rural hinterland with the ability to provide digital payment services at the doorstep with the help of Postmen and Gramin Dak Sewaks (GDS).
SBI reports Rs 2,416 cr loss in Q3
The State Bank of India (SBI) on Friday reported loss of Rs. 2,416 crore in the third quarter of the current fiscal, attributed to lower trading income on account of hardening of bond yields, higher corporate slippages leading to higher loan loss provisions and significant investment depreciation hit.
Winter Olympics: Teenage snowboarding sensation Red Gerard wins first gold for US
In South Korea, teenage snowboarding sensation Red Gerard won the first gold for the United States at the Pyeongchang Olympics today. The 17-year-old landed an 87.16 point final effort in the slopestyle to snatch victory from Canadians Max Parrot, who took silver and Mark McMorris, who picked up a bronze.
